We all woke up bright and early in the morning (thanks to H and H) and though Hudson wanted to watch tv and wake up slowly, Hadley was ready to go the second her feet hit the ground! While Matt and Hudson rested for a little bit, Hadley and I went on a quick jog to the park, Hadley showed me her monkey bar skills, and then we stopped for a breakfast smoothie on the way home. By the time we got home Matt and Hudson were dressed and ready for the pool. We decided it would be fun to try out the pool and then we had plans to go into Destin later on after hearing about the fun things to do in Baytowne Wharf.
This pool was so great! It had a wonderful large pool for the bigger kids and adults and then a rectangular kiddie pool that was only 1.5 feet deep. Hudson loved wading around in it and diving for all the pool toys we had brought with us. We literally packed a suitcase only full of pool and beach toys because we had no idea what we were going to need. We stayed at the pool for most of the morning and then came back to the house to eat a quick lunch before gettting dressed and ready for Destin.
In the car and headed into Destin. Hadley was excited to sit in the front with Daddy while I sat in the back with Hudson who kept me entertained with silly faces and giggles the entire way.
So the one mistake we made on the trip....we chose the WRONG time of day to go to Baytowne Wharf! The weather was actually very mild while we were in Florida but down in the wharf it is extremely humid with no air flow. Combine that with the heat of 2:00 and it was brutal. We were all dripping sweat and the kids (particulary Hudson) did not handle it well. But we made the best of our time there and still had fun....and we ate lots of ice cream to help us out a bit!
There is a mini ropes course for kids that Hadley climbed on. An area to drive motorized boats consumed most of Hudson's time and attention. But best of all, and what the kids loved the most, was the bungee trampoline. Hadley went first and Hudson watched to see how the whole thing worked. After watching big sis master flips and spins in the air he thought he would give it a try. His little body just didn't seem heavy enough to make a flip happen but he had a blast flying high in the air. Hadley decided to do it one more time and got even more daring asking the person operating it to take her higher. Afterwards, Matt played a little golf challenge and then the kids played at the park. We then decided we had had enough of the heat and thought we would rather head back to Seaside for dinner and relaxing.
The kids had been begging to go to Duckies, the town toy store. After a good day with no arguments and minding so well we took them in to do a little shopping. They loved checking out every little trinket and toy in the store and had such a hard time deciding on their favorite. We had a great time laughing at the giant animal heads and the kids thought it was hilarious to put them on and take pictures. After lots of contemplating, changing minds, and about 1 hour they finally decided on their purchase...Hadley chose a stuffed animal (seems to be the toy of choice these days) and Hudson chose a shark that could go in the ocean and pool with him.
Part of the reason we wanted to head back early from Destin was to have time to catch the family movie night in Central Square. This is a weekly event on Friday nights where they put out a huge inflatable movie screen and families bring blankets and pillows to watch a movie on the grass. We all thought it would be such a great idea. The kids ran around chasing each other as everything got set up and we waited for it to get dark. We got another frost bite and enjoyed a showing of Despicable Me 2. The day did seem to catch up to the kids about 45 minutes into the movie though and they gladly packed up for the room as soon as we even mentioned the idea. Another great day ending with a tired family ready for bed.
