Nathan's wedding

One of Matt's best college friends, Nathan Kirby, got married in Shreeveport, LA this weekend and Matt and I got to take a nice roadtrip for our first time to LA. Matt was a groomsman in the wedding so we drove down Friday morning (leaving the kids with my parents for the weekend). It was such an easy 6 hour drive and we enjoyed spending the time together and talking about life! We stopped just outside of Dallas for lunch and made it into Shreeveport about 3pm. After relaxing in the hotel a bit we got dressed and ready for the rehearsal dinner that was held at the brides house. She lived on a fabulous lake where all the homes had backyard views of the lake. Matt and I were expecting some pretty hot, muggy weather but it was actually wonderful weather and cool at night. Here are a couple pictures from the dinner...

First, a crawfish boil (that I did not participate in):

Terrible picture but a beautiful view:

Their backyard was three tiers of yard and they had tables set up on each tier. We were right down by the water. The food was true Southern food with lots of spices and fresh catfish.

After dinner we all went out and visited some of Shreeveport's famous casinos. Matt and I were a little surprised at how dirty the city was but it was still a fun time with friends.

On Saturday morning the guys went golfing and I had a relaxing time by the pool, reading books, working out, and getting a massage. It was such a perfect morning. Matt has a great college friend, Molly Lauber, and we hung out most of the day together. We had so much fun getting to know each other and realized we have SO much in common. Wish they didn't live all the way in Kansas City...

About 4:00  the guys came back home and we got ready for the wedding. I didn't take a ton of pictures of the wedding and reception but it was in a beautiful Catholic church and the reception was so pretty as well. The brides family owns a produce company so all the boutonnieres were made out of carved carrots and radishes. You never knew until you got up close but they were so pretty.

Me and the most handsome groomsman!

On Sunday we slept in a little bit and then jumped on the road to head back home. We had heard about a donut shop that apparently had the best donuts in the south so we decided to stop on our way out of town. I will have to agree that they were the best donuts I think I have EVER had and it was just a little hole-in-the-wall mom and pop shop. We tried to bring some home but the owner looked at me like I was crazy when I said I said I would just microwave them to heat them up. I think she was scared I would ruin their name! We also made a stop at the American Girl store on the way back to buy some birthday presents for Hadley. With her birthday only a few weeks away it worked out perfectly to run in and grab her the present she wanted the very most...Saige, this years American Girl doll of the year. I can't wait to give it to her.
