Kanakuk Day 3 (Monday)

So far, we have had a great trip! The kids are loving it and we are wearing ourselves out each day which means another night of sleeping well. This morning we woke up and got ready with plenty of time before breakfast so the kids and I got out of the room to let Matt sleep a little longer. We stopped at one of our favorite places on Kauai, the Bean. I got a coffee and the kids filled up their water jugs for the morning. Afterwards we walked down the million steps (or 97 to be exact) to the lower fields. We hadn't been down there yet and were anxious to check it out and walk around a little bit before breakfast. We found the soccer fields, archery, slip and slides, paddleboats, and much more. Of course, it wasn't open yet but made us excited to get down here in the afternoon soon to check it all out.

Some pictures walking to breakfast (after an outfit change for Hadley from getting dirty) and the girls joining in on the cheers at breakfast. Each age group had a cheer they were taught and when the counselors called out each group the kids would shout the cheers with their counselors. I found myself singing out the cheers as well after a few days!

After breakfast we took a picture with Halston and her brother, Hudson. They actually live in our neighborhood and go to Crossings so it was fun to find out about a month before we left that they were going to Kanakuk as well.

The kids had their morning activities, we listen to Joel Thomas (the camp speaker), worked out, and picked the kids up at 11:30 for lunch. We ate lunch upstairs and then finished up with dessert at the Bean. I have a picture that I will post later on but the cookie sundae may be my all-time favorite dessert. It was a huge cookie heated up and topped with ice cream and whipped cream. Unbelieveable to say the least and we got our share of about 1 each day while at camp! Obviously, by Hudson's face, he thought they were really good too...

So this afternoon was probably what we were most excited about before coming to camp. We had been told several times about the "Diamond Head" ropes course. We made our reservations before coming and were given Monday afternoon. Hudson wasn't quite tall enough but we had some counselors that let him do it anyway so he was pretty pumped. Buck and Gunner were able to stay in the extended childcare so that Lisa, Ryan, and Peyton could do the course. Then the unfortunate happened....

It rained. Enough to cause them to close the course and after getting all suited up they had to call everything off for a bit. When the rain passed by we knew we would be a little short on time so I decided to stay behind and take pictures while they got through as much of the course as they could.  I think they all had a lot of fun and it was definitely a faith builder for Hadley and Hudson. Though they had very little fear beforehand, they both ended up having moments of tears and then conquering those fears. Matt and I were so proud of both of them. They had to listen to us and their counselors and trust us when we assured them that they were perfectly safe.  Peyton was really nervous as well but she ended up doing great! The last section of the course was not feasible for Hudson to do because of his height so Matt even had to carry him on his back. Everyone was cheering "SUPERDAD" by the time he made it to the end. Everyone ended up making it through the course with smiles on their faces.

We got done just in time to shower and get ready for our first theme night of the week...Scout night. We had fun prepping for this night by going over to Lolly and Pops house to collect Pops Eagle Scout gear and Matts old Indian Guides gear. I had nothing to offer but my friend, Lindsey was a girlscout in 1986 and still had her vest for Hadley to wear. We got all put together and took a few pics before heading out.

When we arrived at the chapel the kids were able to complete tasks to receive "badges." They had a lot of fun earning their sticker badges before moving inside for the party. Inside we all sat on the ground and had to help solve the mystery of the museum theft. This was a fun party for the kids but ended up being our least favorite because the kids seemed to get a little bored by the end. It was a little more tailored to older kids but still fun! Our tired little girl just couldn't hold out and ended up falling right to sleep on my lap. We carried both the kids home afterwards and they fell right to sleep.
