Fall Break

Matt and I wanted to think of something fun to do with the kids over Fall Break. We decided it would great to go to the Jenks Aquarium since the kids had never been. Then to make a weekend of it we planned to stay at the Tulsa Wyndham since they had a fun indoor pool for the kids.

We woke up Saturday morning and left about 9 to head for Tulsa. The kids were great in the car, laughed most of the way, and only asked "are we almost there?" a couple times! We ate an early lunch at Subway right beside the aquarium and then got there soon after it opened. It was a great weekend to go and there were hardly any crowds. Hudson was most excited to see the sharks and Hadley talked about all sorts of sea life that she had been learning about including: seahorses, jellyfish, and stingrays. Thankfully, the aquarium met all our expectations. It was just as interesting for Matt and I and we had a great time looking around and learning about all the fish. We got to feed the turtles and the stingrays and the kids reactions were hilarious! Hadley got so excited to feed them and thought it was so cool to have the turtles snatch a piece of carrot off her stick. Hudson, on the other hand, jumped each time the turtle or stingray would clamp down and would much rather his daddy feed them. The pictures of them feeding show their feelings pretty well.

There was a big aquarium where the kids could climb through a tunnel inside the tank. Hadley, who doesn't get nervous about anything, thought this was pretty awesome! Hudson was a little unsure until he talked his daddy into going inside the tank with him.

An unprompted picture that may be one of my very favorites!

In the big shark tank where the sharks swim all around you. Such a creepy feeling but really cool. I tried to get a picture of one swimming behind Hadley but never did get one of the really big ones. The sharks were definitely a hit with Hudson.

One of my favorite memories. Hudson was convinced that if you got too close to the tank you would fall inside. We tried to explain how that wasn't possible but it was just too hard for him to comprehend. So anytime we would get really close he would scream for us to get back. Or if we were holding him he would say, "Don't put me in there!" I took this picture of Hadley messing with her brother and touching the tank while he did his best to make sure she wouldn't fall in!

After a fun morning and early afternoon at the Aquarium we left for the hotel. It was only about 15 minutes away. We checked in at the hotel and right as we walked to the elevators the kids spotted the hotel pool. There was obviously going to be no resting in the room....instead the kids were stripping off their clothes as soon as we were in the door and putting on their swimsuits. Matt came down to the pool with us for a little bit before heading up to the room to watch the OSU game. I was able to read a little of my book while the kids swam their little hearts out. They laughed, played, made some friends, and went up and down the slides. I knew they were going to be exhausted!

After the kids had had more than they could handle we went back up to the room to rest and watch a movie while the OSU game finished up. None of us fell asleep and were quite hungry when the game was over so we got dressed and decided on eating at Chuy's just a few blocks away.

And somehow my pictures ended here. The dinner was great and with full bellies we decided on going to a movie. Why not keep the aquatic theme of our weekend going and go see Dolphin Tale 2. It may have not been our greatest decision as Hadley fell asleep and Hudson screamed, "I don't want this movie!" as soon as he realized it wasn't animated.  But it ended up being a cute movie and a good night out. We drove back to the hotel with two knocked out kids only to find out all but one elevator was broken when we arrived. So after waiting for about 30 minutes we finally made it up to our room, laid down in bed, and got a good nights sleep. In the morning we got up and around early so that we could get back home. We stopped at IHOP on the way and filled up with some yummy breakfast. The kids said several times how much fun they had and that they weren't ready to go home yet! For a short weekend trip it was a great little get-away!
