Disneyland Day 1

The long awaited day has come for us to head to Disneyland!!! As I may have mentioned before,  Mama and Papa planned a wonderful Disneyland getaway for us in October. Unfortunately, Mama then broke her hip at our house in August and we, therefore, had to postpone our trip! In the end, it was a blessing we moved the trip back a little bit. Hudson was much better and more cooperative at 3.5 rather than 3 years old. And Hadley grew another couple inches making none of the rides a concern.

We woke the kids up at 5am and we were a little nervous about how groggy they would be and how the plane ride would go. But there was no reason for it...because the kids woke up in the BEST mood. Hadley was so incredibly excited from the minute she woke up and couldn't wait to put on her Disney clothes. Hudson, our late sleeper, was a little confused at first but quickly figured it out and pepped up as well. After getting ready we all waited on the driveway for the Airport Shuttle and I saw a new side of my kids. I wish so badly that I had video. They were dancing around the driveway, screaming and hugging each other, and talking about how this was the "best day ever." It gave me butterflies in my stomach to even think about what was to come. When Hudson got in the shuttle he literally laughed and screamed the ENTIRE way there, "This is soooo fun!!!" Hadley just held my hand, looked out the window, and smiled the whole time. This was already setting up to be a great trip!

The wait at the airport was exciting. As my fear of flying continues to grow, we decided this would be a great trip for me to try some xanax to calm my nerves. With 4 adults and 2 kids we were sure that even if I was practically unresponsive the other 3 adults could handle getting us to the hotel. I'm kind-of kidding. Turns out, I did not take enough medicine anyway and the flight was no different that the many others we have taken. Thankfully, it was probably the smoothest flight I have ever been on and no tears were necessary. It goes without saying, the kids were perfect. They are finally at the age we don't have to dread sitting by a stranger and having our kids scream during the entire flight. Hadley caught up on some sleep and Hudson watched a couple movies. It was about as good as it could get.

Hadley asked the pilot if she could see the cockpit. He said, "I can do something even better. Come up here and sit in my seat." She thought it was pretty awesome. Hudson was too busy getting our carry-ons off the plane and looking for Mickey Mouse.

Hudson was such a gentleman and carried both his and Hadley's carry-ons from the minute we got to the airport until we made it to the hotel room. In all reality, Hadley wanted to carry her own but Hudson INSISTED on carrying it for her. So I think he was just being stubborn instead.

The kids were pretty excited to see Lightning McQueen on the side of our shuttle bus.

Waiting to check in at the hotel and the kids were quick to find a seat in front of a disney movie. I was so impressed at how well they were still doing.

After checking into the hotel we decided to head down to Downtown Disney. We had no plans of going to the park on the first day, rather we wanted to spend the day walking around and swimming at the pool. Hadley found some great shops to buy all sorts of clothes, jewelry, and toys so Matt found a store for Hudson as well. Ridemakerz is a store where you pick out the chassis for a car. Then you pick the wheels, a lift kit, and all sorts of other accessories and YOU get to put it all together. Hudson pretty much thought it was the most amazing thing he has ever gotten to do.

So proud...even though he is looking a little stoic here.

He was the most excited about being given his "key" and instructions on how to take care of the car.

After shopping for a while we made our way back to the hotel for the kids to go swimming. With it being only May it has been quite a while since the kids have been in a pool and they couldn't wait to jump in. The water was not the warmest but it didn't phase them a bit. Hadley was quick to go down the water slides (which I have great video of) and Hudson loved cheering her on.

And swimming worked up quite an appetite. We found a Mexican restaurant with great chips and queso though the rest of the food was just ok. Hudson and Hadley both ate until their little bellies were protruding and were so wonderful at dinner. We talked about our plans for the rest of the trip and how much fun we had already had. After dinner, we stopped for ice cream and then we all decided we were ready to call it a day. It was 9:00 our time and after an early wake up we were all exhausted. Our first day couldn't have gone any better. The kids were absolutely perfect, the weather was wonderful, and we couldn't wait to see what all was to come...
