Three years has gone by so fast! And it is crazy how different it is the second time around. With Hadley she seemed so grown up at three...and had to be because we were a couple months away from bringing another baby into the house. But with our second, and last, I seem to not want to give up the baby title. So I am in a little bit of denial that he is already three! But we sure are loving life these days as it is so fun and much easier with a 3 and 6 year old.
We had big plans for Hudson's birthday and he didn't even know what was coming. I told him before bed that he would be three in the morning and he looked at me like I was crazy. He apparently forgot overnight because he was so surprised in the morning when Matt and Hadley went upstairs to get him out of bed while singing Happy Birthday. I stood at the bottom of the stairs with donut holes and the camera ready to capture some smiles. He was a little shy at first and didn't want pictures but he quickly warmed up to being the birthday boy and couldn't wait to blow out his candles.
Before eating his donuts he looked over and spotted a table full of presents and he quickly decided he wasn't hungry yet. There was just no time to waste and he HAD to see what presents were ready to be opened!
This was the best birthday yet for this little man. He could not have shown more emotion and got so excited with each new present. He said "tank you" after each one and even gave out lots of hugs. He let Hadley play with some of his toys and she was so precious to give him his space and make a big deal out of all his presents.
After playing with his toys and relaxing for a little bit we all got dressed and ready for the family to come over and celebrate the birthday boy. Because of Labor Day weekend and football games it just so happened to fall that Hudson would not get to have his party until the 15th. We didn't want him to wait that long for presents and decided to have family over for cookie cake, pizza, and presents. He couldn't wait for everyone to see his Batman cake that he had picked out. My mom had surprised him with batman plates and napkins and he helped me get it all set out.
Love this excited face!
Mama, unfortunately, is still in her rehab center and wasn't able to come over to the house. But we sure didn't want her missing out on presents. After everybody left we made our way up to the hospital to take Mama some cake and she and Papa gave Hudson his presents. He was so excited to be getting even more presents! I think his favorite one was his Cars suitcase that they bought him for Disneyland. He loved putting all his new toys in it and dragging it down the hospital hallways.
Wearing his new Cars shirt from Mama and Papa. They spoiled him with presents once again!
What a day! Hudson was pretty exhauste and didn't put up much of a fight when we told him it was time for bed. He insisted on wearing his new shirt and had a little trouble deciding on what toy he wanted to take to bed but didn't do his usual "two more minutes?" He picked cheese and crackers for a bedtime snack and we read a couple books. I took my time putting him down because he was just SO happy! We talked about the day and he gave me lots of giggles. We all had a great day!
Hudson Jake,
You are such an incredible boy! You make each day so interesting and most often fun. You are so strong-willed and must have things your way which has made us get creative in our parenting. We often have to make you think that our idea was actually your idea or it won't get done. However, even with your spit-fire, wild, rambunctious personality you are such a loveable boy (especially at night) and love to give hugs and kisses. You are still a bit of a mamas boy and its a stage that I am not dying for you to grow out of. You have the sweetest little smile and can get away with too much just by flashing it. You love to be the center of attention in the family and will do just about anything for a laugh. Its a side that many people don't see often because you can be shy at first but as soon as you warm up you put on a show. You absolutely love your sister but can be so darn mean to her. Thankfully, she loves you back just as much and is so forgiving and understanding of your tantrums towards her. She is the first person you ask for when you wake up and the last one you want to kiss before bed. You have had such a rough time with her starting school 5 days a week because you have lost you play buddy. It melts my heart to see you two hugging each other, holding hands, and watching tv together. Your personalities go together so well and I really do think you will always be such great friends. Hudson, you have absolutely no interest in potty-training and due to my disgust of public bathrooms, I haven't pushed it. I know it will come but not sure it will be anytime soon. The fact that you still only weigh 26 pounds and can still wear 6-12 month shorts means a diaper helps keep your shorts up as well! You have finally started enjoying food and are slowly becoming less picky. We have a tiny bit of influence over you eating and are making some headway in the growing department. You love all things superhero, trains, cars, construction trucks, and guns. You are all boy and love to tear apart/destroy anything in sight. We are constantly commenting on how strong you are for your size. And you are talking up a storm. We are able to understand most of what you say but you make us repeat it to you just to be sure. And the majority of the time, if we can't figure it out then Hadley can. You are just changing so much and acting like such a big boy now!
We love you so very much, Hudson, and are so thankful to be your mom and dad. God has truely blessed us! Happy 3rd Birthday, Hudson Jake!!!!
