Friday evening Abby and Katie came in town and Lolly and Pops took all the kids to see Broadway Lion King at the Civic Center. The kids said the show was great and Hudson REALLY loved it. Hadley is like her momma and liked the show but sitting still is just not her favorite thing. They had a great time with their grandparents!
We got up early Saturday morning and drove to the lake for the weekend. We boarded the dogs so we wouldn't have to go back and we could just enjoy a relaxing weekend. Mama and Papa had planned a big party on Sunday so we spent Saturday hanging out with family, riding on the boat, and getting things set out and ready. This has to be one of my favorite weekends of the year! The kids are always so excited for summer...so are we, and the lake is the best place to welcome summer back! The weather was perfect and the kids were just so happy. Peyton was here for the weekend and it was fun to have Abby and Katie in town as well. Hudson has proved to us that he is careful enough to ride the four-wheeler all by himself and even though he loves to take me on rides sometimes, he would much rather ride all by himself. He just really doesn't love that hand-me-down pink helmet! Papa bought a bigger four-wheeler for the adults but the kids know they aren't allowed to drive that one. Hadley is so great on the four-wheelers too and knows her limits really well.
We spent lots of time on the swingset and while the others were riding.
I just can't get over this cute swimsuit I got Hadley from Target. She's growing up so fast but at least the pigtail buns help keep her young! :)
Lisa tried decorating with flags but they boys seemed to pick them up and run around the yard with them faster than she could put them out.
"Cleaning" muddy tires with water guns, lunch on the porch, and more water gun fights. They boys were living their dream!
Abby and Katie came down with E, Lolly, and Pops early that afternoon and the girls were ready to get on the boat! We tubed and tubed and tubed. They knew how to wear Matt out but he's the best boat driver and never complains! Buck and Gunner even tubed which may be the last time of the season but at least they were brave enough to get out there with Hudson!
We celebrated Pop's birthday that evening at Erin and Tim's house. We had a cookout, lots of dessert, and the kids played on four-wheelers and had a water balloon fight. It was the perfect evening! The weather was great and we got to play outside for hours before a short rainstorm rolled in as we were finishing up. Hadley loved playing with Abby and Katie and the boys are now getting old enough to really play together too. They all have so much fun together. Times have changed so much in a few short years. I miss the little toddlers running around everywhere but I love this time of life we are getting to experience right now!
Sunday morning we woke up early and got started preparing for all our Memorial Day guests. We had invited the Bakers down and Ryan's family invited some friends they have made in their neighborhood. We were all pretty excited. Mama and Papa had planned a big shrimp boil feast for lunch/dinner and lots of desserts.
While on a short walk with Hudson we found a big turtle walking across the yard. He was so excited to take a picture with it and then, with Ryan's help, he even had the nerve to hold it. Buck was still asleep but Gunner came running out to hold it as well. He was a goofball and took off running and screaming as soon as he set it down.
Everyone arrived and we wasted no time changing into our suits and getting on the boat. The Bakers were only there for the day so we wanted the boys to have plenty of time on the boat and riding four-wheelers.
Hadley and Ben laughing on the tube. I think we are outgrowing our boat as its nearly impossible to throw anyone off anymore and thats what the kids want! Its a great boat though, so its hard to think about selling.
Hudson and Will tubing. They were such dare devils and we couldn't go fast enough.
Ryan and Lisa bought these big inflatable balls that you climb in. They have handles and the kids are supposed to run as fast as they can and try and knock each other over. I laughed so hard. Watching the big kids send the little kids flying was hilarious. And it was awesome to know no one would get hurt.
Mama and Papa bought some LED lit rockets that you shoot with a slingshot. They are made to shoot in the dark so that they glow but the kids were too excited to wait until it was dark and we went ahead and played with them early. Hudson and Hadley had played with them once before last summer with friends but they are going to be fun to have at the lake.
It took everything in them to line up for a picture without throwing the balloons! They could hardly wait. But we got it done. Not the best picture because of the sun but its pretty impressive how many people we had for the water balloon fight. I have some awesome video of them chasing each other around. I wish I had gotten more pictures as well. It was so much fun!
Playing in the water to cool off!
And the pictures I regret not getting... Mom and Dad planned this amazing shrimp boil for everyone. I can't even describe how much shrimp, potatoes, and veggies day boiled. The had a big table with a table cloth on it and dumped it all out on the table. Everyone just filled their plates with all they could eat! Dad cooked hot dogs for the kids and it was so much fun to sit around eating with all our guests.
Everyone headed home for the night and it was just our small family left. A little sunburned but feeling complete. It was such a fun day.
Memorial Day we woke up and planned on a pretty low key day. No guests, we just had plans to clean up, let the kids play, and spend a little more time on the water. We wrestled a little more in the inflatable balls, did some work with the tractor, and wakeboarded on the Pfennigers boat. Hadley tried so hard to get up and did for about 2 seconds but was exhausted from tubing the day before and gave up pretty quickly. Hudson wasn't quite ready to try yet and just wanted to ride. Matt tried wake surfing for the first time so it was fun for the kids to watch him.
We had such a fun, memorable weekend with family and friends. This is what I love so much about the lake. Very little technology (except my phone for pictures), no errand running, no cleaning house....just spending time making memories.
