Purple Pixies first softball tournament

As a team, we decided to put the girls in their first softball tournament. We knew we would be playing some pretty tough teams (12 total) in Del City but we also thought it would be some pretty good experience for them. Turns out, it was just as much fun for us. We played one game Friday night, three on Saturday, and two on Sunday.

These pictures are from Friday before our first game. Hadley was pretty excited but a little nervous, not knowing what to expect. We were supposed to have a game at 6pm and another at 8pm for the round robin portion of the tournament. Unfortunately, when our entire team showed up and was ready to play we were told by the officials that the other team had to reschedule and they had forgotten to tell us. So our 6pm game was rescheduled for 9am the next morning. Since we were all already there we had the girls just practice and warm up for an hour. It ended up calming their nerves and they had a lot of fun.

Too bad Mama, Papa, Buck, and Gunner had come out to cheer her on and then had to leave before the 8pm game. The boys still had fun playing in the dirt while we watched the girls play.

After taking a quick break for dinner we were back on the field for our 8pm game. It was the latest our girls had ever played but they thought it was pretty fun playing softball in the dark . We played a pretty great team and ended up losing the game but this was expected and the girls handled it just fine! Hadley had two hits to first, stole a base, and played some good defense at short stop. It was a late, tiring night and we had two sleepy kids that passed out in the car the minute we left the parking lot.

Sadly, we had to miss Saturday mornings game because Hadley and Hudson both had their last soccer game and awards ceremony. We hated not being there and especially when we found out that it ended up being a really close game. But our next game was at 1pm so we took the kids home to rest before heading out to meet up with the rest of the team. This first game was against a team from Jones. The girls were all pumped and ready. Hadley had three more really good hits and got on base each time. She played short stop again and had a couple throws to first that almost got a girl out. The entire team ended up playing a great game and we came out with a win! We were all so excited because we knew that we potentially wouldn't win a single game. So we started out the actual tournament 1-0.

This picture made me laugh once I got it uploaded. This is after warming up and they were all coming to the dugout. The way they are strutting in and the way the other girls are looking at them just makes for a funny picture.

Love this little girls batting stance. She really does have such a good, pretty swing.

Stealing third base and getting her first run in the tournament.

We had never had this head gear before but decided it would be a good idea since we would be playing some pretty powerful teams. We were so thankful we did because there were several girls that got close to taking a ball in the face and in the last game Hadley ended up taking a pretty hard line drive right to her mask. There's no convincing her to wear her mask anymore!

A picture to show the girls true excitement after winning the game! They were all smiles and couldn't believe it. They played hard and wanted this win so bad.

After finding out our next game was at 5:00 we decided it wouldn't be worth going home and coming back. Thankfully, we knew we would be playing a later game no matter what the outcome was of our first game so we had all packed ice chests full of food and drinks for the kids. We set out chairs, played some music, and the kids piled in the back of the car to eat sno-cones and relax. It ended up being one of my favorite afternoons. I now understand what is so fun about spending the weekend at a ball field. Even Hudson had a blast and was very supportive of Hadley...though hit helps he got to spend the weekend with Oscar!

During our 5:00 game we played the "Misfits." This team was incredible. They had a catcher that was almost the size of Hadley while she was squatting and Hadley was batting. She could even throw a one-hop ball to 2nd base. We haven't ever experienced a team like this. But our girls never got frustrated and even ended up scoring several runs. They played their best but we lost 12-5. We were done for the night and we headed home to rest up for our game Sunday morning at 10.

Sunday morning came quickly and we made it to the field in time for a quick rain shower to come through. Thankfully it didn't last and no games were delayed. We knew this was possibly our last game as the tournament was double elimination and we were 1-1. But our girls had another awesome game, all hit well (Hadley probably had the best hit I have ever seen from her), and we ended up winning the game! I had quit taking pictures at this point and have it all on the video camera instead. We were 2-1 which meant we played again at 3:00!  Unfortunately, Buck's 3rd birthday party was scheduled from 2-4 so Hadley was able to go to a little bit of it but she and Matt ended up leaving a little early from the lake to go to the game and then came back to finish up the party. I had to miss the last game of the tournament and they ended up losing to the Misfits once again. It was too bad that the bracket fell that we had to play them twice! However, I kept getting texts from the moms on the team letting me know how awesome Hadley was playing and apparently she had the defensive game of her life. So sad to miss it but I know I'll see many more games. We had a great time playing in the tournament and though its not something I would want to do all the time, it was definitely a good experience for all the girls and they all seemed to have so much fun!
