I think we had the most low-key Christmas Eve since having kids and it was wonderful! We got to spend time as a family, relax, have fun together, and remember the reason we celebrate Christmas. We started off the day making a gingerbread house. Well, it was actually a little old, wouldn't stay together, and the kids just ate the candy instead....but it was still fun. We watched some Christmas movies, got rice krispie treats for Santa (Hadley thought he would want something other than cookies), and sat by the fire.
As evening approached, we all got dressed and ready for our Christmas Eve service at church. I always love how this is the one service the kids get to sit through with us. Hudson had a little trouble staying still but seemed to manage ok. And both the kids loved lighting their candles and singing "Silent Night." It brought tears to my eyes, and though Hudson doesn't quite understand the depth of it all yet, Hadley seems to really get it this year. After the service we saw Ryan and his family in the church lobby. Hudson was just so happy to see Buck.
We came home, changed into our pajamas, laid out the plate for Santa, and got ready for bed. I think the kids were so excited for the morning that we had the easiest time getting them into bed! And Matt and I were just as giddy. Of all nights in the year, this is easily always my favorite!
The tree is ready and the kids are in bed. Santa, we are ready for you! And, Jesus, we can't wait to celebrate your birthday tomorrow!
