So we have over-committed ourselves again! But neither kid could quite figure out what they could give up. The Crossings softball team has decided to move on to kid pitch and had to move leagues to EASI. Although it will be so good for helping them improve, it will add a lot to our schedule! But Hadley is more than excited to get started again. Only a few on the team have ever played kid pitch and those same few are the only ones that know the rules. However, their first game of kid pitch on Monday went incredibly well. They won the game, pitching was pretty good, and most of the girls hit the ball or got walked. I think there was only 1 or 2 strike outs the whole game. So impressive!
For the fun part of this post. Hadley has been telling us the she would really like to try pitching. Not to the point of taking lessons, but just practicing on her own and hoping to pitch in a game at some point. She has watched YouTube videos with Matt and practiced a lot in the driveway. So I let Susannah know and she was thrilled when Susannah called over to Matt at the beginning of the 2nd inning to start warming Hadley up! I watched as she ran over to grab her glove and her face was beaming! When the team took the field we were up 6-5. Hadley took the mound and threw a couple practice pitches way above the catchers head. It didn't seem to phase her at all as she kept warming up and the batter took the plate. And then she got in a rhythm! Her first two pitches were strikes. 3rd pitch was a little outside and the 4th pitch was in the strike zone that the girl hit right back to her and Hadley threw her out at first. 1 out. 2nd batter: ball (high), strike swinging, strike swinging, strike swinging. 2 outs! 3rd batter: foul ball, strike swinging, strike swinging. 3up, 3down!!! It was so awesome. Although the second inning of pitching didn't go quite as well, she still did great. She did walk the first few players with a few strikes thrown in there but then she got the hang of it again. The first out came from a ball being hit back to her and she threw her out at 1st, 2nd was a grounder to Kate at first, and 3rd was another ball hit at Hadley who threw her out at 1st. At the time of the last out we had a player on 2nd and 3rd with the tying run being on 3rd. It was pretty amazing!
I am so proud of Hadley. She was all smiles and it may have been one of her favorite games. She also hit a legit home run and a triple! I can't forget to mention that it was absolutely one of the coldest games I have ever sat through! I have no idea how the girls hands weren't numb so to be able to pitch in that was pretty incredible. I'm excited for this season of softball.
