It's finally here! Hadley has been looking forward to Kanakuk and hadn't seemed anxious at all. I, on the other hand, have been thinking about it day and night. I know she is ready and it will be so good for her but I just have a huge fear that she won't love it and will be missing us the whole time. I am so thankful that she has her best friend going with her which I know will help so much!
We spent the night before leaving packing her bags. She wanted to help me pack which was fun for both of us. We labeled all her clothes, put outfits together in ziplock baggies, gathered shower stuff, and washed her sheets. And finally, we decorated her trunk and she LOVES it!
We ended the night cuddling in bed before she fell fast asleep. Not many nerves coming from this girl...yet.
Saturday morning we woke up early, got dressed, and rushed out the door to make it to Remington Park by 7:30am. Hadley HATES car rides and always asks, "Are we almost there?" But that question was not asked this morning. Instead, as we pulled in the parking lot her eyes filled up with tears and she said, "we are already here?" I put on my happy face and made sure she didn't see that I wanted to cry as well. Thankfully, she cheered up pretty quickly and had no problem jumping on the bus and telling us bye!
Hudson realized he hadn't really gotten to hug and kiss her bye and he wanted to go on the bus to see her. When we climbed on he ran straight to her, gave her a big hug, and cried because he didn't want her to leave. I always tell them they will be best of friends someday and this proves to me that I am right! We left her one last time and Hudson watched with us as the bus pulled away.
I can't say I had the greatest day. I was a little consumed with wondering how she was doing, if she got her lunch ok, and checking my email. I knew they were supposed to email us a check-in picture so we would know she made it and it just didn't come soon enough. Finally, around 3:00pm my email arrived saying that Hadley had checked in! Whew! And a big smile on her face to go along with the email. Such a big relief...though it didn't make me miss her less.
Here are a few more pictures from the day of check-in. Hadley being announced at kamp, carried off by her counselor, and enjoying a welcome picnic dinner. Looks like its going to be a great week!
