Our last full day at Kanakuk and I'm realizing how tired I am but still not ready to leave! The kids are still having a blast and it has been one of my favorite weeks of my life. We started the day with some rain as we all walked to our classes after breakfast. I took a picture of Hudson with his classroom leaders we will miss so much and then a picture of a typical morning at the Reef with Hadley. We went on to our morning time and then picked the kids up for lunch. Obviously, one little boy was totally exhausted as he fell asleep in the middle of eating his lunch!
After lunch they opened the ropes course up during free time. Usually, you had to reserve a spot but Friday is always left open for anyone who didn't get to do it or wants to do it again. We started off with the zip line because it rained during our reservation and we didn't get to go. Matt went with Hadley and sweet girl was pretty nervous. She was brave though, did great, and ended up loving it! Then it was my turn to ride with Hudson. It was a little bit of the reverse here as I was the more nervous one. Hudson was super brave as well and only got nervous when he got all strapped on and then looked down. But he did it, smiled the whole way, and even wanted to go again.
When we finally made it back to the top of the hill we didn't have a lot of time left but the kids wanted to attempt to climb the rock wall. Hadley actually made it all the way to the top of the 40ft wall! She got really nervous about halfway up but the counselors were so amazing at calming her down and making her feel comfortable and she finally got up the nerve to finish it out. I was so proud of her and cheered like crazy for her. Hudson probably made it about 1/3 of the way up but his little body just didn't have the reach to finish it out. He did try his hardest though and was really sad he wasn't able to hit the buzzer. I know he can do it next time, though!
Here is Ryan and Peyton on the zipline.
After the ropes course we put on our swimsuits, swam for a bit, and then had a family game of Jenga. I was pretty impressed at how tall our tower got. Apparently 39 levels is the record and we got to 33.
And finally, our last "party" of the week. This was Kanakuk Family camps 10th anniversary so they threw a big Hawaiian birthday party for "Kauai" the palm tree mascot. This was the easiest party to dress for. But you can definitely tell the kids are getting tired...especially in their eyes!
After dinner we walked into the gym, all hid, and waited for Kauai to come inside. When he did we all screamed "SURPRISE!" and the music started! It was so much fun! They had all kinds of carnival games set up for the kids, birthday cake, punch, and facepaint. It was a perfect way to end the week.
