Hudson's first Karate tournament

Hudson competed in his first Karate tournament on Saturday. We had no idea what to expect and ended up finding out we weren't quite prepared. However, Hudson tried his hardest, got third in each event, and left with two trophies.

When we first got there most of the kids were stretching, warming up, and some (like Hudson) were just running around playing. They started off the tournament in prayer and then lined the kids up to place them in their groups. This age group was the 4-7 year olds so Hudson was definitely one of the youngest. Some of the kids were white belts still but there were a few yellow and orange too. After being placed they competed in "forms" first. Hudson had to present the bear form to all the judges and this is where we weren't prepared. He knows his forms but did not realize he would have to get up in front of everyone by himself and do it alone! He completely froze and I thought he would start crying. Thankfully, he was given another chance and ended up doing really great. He got so excited after all the moves that he ran up to his Master and gave him a huge hug followed by the entire crowd saying, "ahhh!" It was so sweet and it really is one of my proudest moments of him. He tried his hardest, didn't give up, and kept a smile on his face. When his name got called for 3rd place I was so  happy for him! The second event was sparring. This is the event I thought Hudson would be the best at. Unfortunately, I think he was a little intimidated by the other kids and was scared to be too rough because I KNOW he could have won this event. He still made it through and ended up getting 3rd again. He walked over to us with his trophy with a little pout because he was not thrilled that he got 3rd in both events. He said he really wanted the bigger trophy! I am so happy our first tournament is behind us and I'm excited to see him compete in more.

I have most of the tournament on video but here are the few pictures I got.
